While always on the hunt for exciting more recent additions to the dynamic Willamette Valley like @arlynvineyard , it is equally important to support and shine a spotlight on legacy producers who are making inspired wines close to 30 years into their craft @stinnocentwine

I’ve always loved people’s stories, which is what I get to do every day here at the shop. A couple weeks ago I was in Austin Texas to share a little bit of mine and the backstory behind how I ended up doing what I’m doing today. I’m also a big believer in building blocks and foundation is really the true story to success. Without my mentors and the lessons that they instilled in me, my success would be a shadow of what I’ve been able to achieve. @chefspsa is one of a handful of podcasts that I follow regularly, and host Andre Natera is incredibly insightful with his curiosity and thoughtful questions. Many of you may not know that I changed careers when I moved to Oregon 20+ years ago and decided to pursue my deep interest in wine and see if I can make a career out of it. What I left behind was a nearly 20 year career in the kitchen that quite literally took me around the world and was incredibly fulfilling and life-changing, but also took a toll on me in many ways. So many of the skills and lessons I learned cooking in some of the world’s greatest kitchens were not only transferable to my new career, but I’ve truly been the building blocks to my success here at Valley Wine Merchants. To commemorate being a guest on the podcast, I dug out a really fun picture from my days cooking in Monaco with the great Alain Ducasse. Take a look at picture number two, I am all the way on the right, a bit younger 😂
The story that I tell of how I ended up there is worth a listen, you may need to pour yourself a gigantic glass of wine in preparation. HA! It was really fun for me too dig deep and recollect some of the stories from the incredible kitchens that I was fortunate to cook in, especially Joachim Splichal’s original Patina location and cooking there in the early 90’s. This was an unfiltered storytelling session, hang on for the wild ride. If you’ve ever been curious what it’s like to work in some of the most demanding kitchens in the world, it would truly be an honor if you listened I and let me know what you think!
